NORCE recently hosted a demonstration day, bringing together representatives from several potential project partners and collaborators. Visitors were introduced to Micro-XRF technology through a live demonstration, providing insights into the identification of critical raw materials in electronic products. The program also included a guided tour of the MIL Lab, where students from both NORCE internships and the University of Agder (UiA) Master’s programme presented their ongoing research and development projects. The event provided an excellent opportunity for knowledge sharing, networking, and exploring future collaboration opportunities.

Micro XRF:
During the demonstration, the Project Manager of the CARM Centre, Hege Indresand, uses Micro-XRF technology to show how critical raw materials can be identified within a laptop. By scanning different components, the technique reveals the presence and distribution of important elements that are essential for modern technologies and the green transition.

Collaboration is key to advancing research and innovation. In this photo, our Research Director, Nabil Belbachir, is engaging with a potential project partner to explore future opportunities for cooperation. The conversation takes place in our laboratory, where students are showcasing robotic solutions for dismantling laptops and other electronic equipment to recover valuable critical raw materials.
